Best things to do in Santorini

Santorini is one of those places that you dont have to look too hard to find interesting things to do and great places to see, the scenery is spectacular.

Most visitors stay just for a few nights so in that time the island has lots to offer.

However, if your staying a little longer then you need to dig a little deeper to get the most out of your stay.

Take a look at our ideas to make your stay more enjoyable.

Mykonos Special Offers

Beautiful Villas with Private Pools, luxury suites, and boutique hotels.

—————————————————————

Mykonos is having a great summer, bookings are going well and the island may enjoy one of its best holiday seasons for many years.

So can you find a good deal?

If you know where to look bargains can always be had, however, we are talking Mykonos bargains, not bargain basements. So where is the best place to bag a good deal when it comes to Mykonos or for that matter any of the beautiful Greek islands, well the first place to look is the specialist companies who know the owners and also know who has rooms or villas with empty beds?

So let’s go back to Mykonos, the accommodations in the best locations normally sell first, so often the hotels and villas in the less popular areas have a few gaps even for peak dates. So should you look at a villa or hotel to get a last-minute deal, if you 2 or 3 in your party then a hotel is probably the best option.

If you’re a group of friends, a family, or couples traveling together then I suggest you think about a House or Villa, every summer new villas are built and if they come onto the rental market during the season they often have special offers.

The fact is many new villas have been built over the last 2 or 3 years, beautiful modern accommodations with amazing facilities including private pools and great views, they still have a few gaps to fill this summer. The specialist villa companies are the ones to contact, they have all the contacts!

Some of the best value Mykonos Villas are to be found on the north coast of the island, around the area of Ftelia, Panoramas bay, and Fanari, the reason for this is it’s still a fairly quiet part of the island and also the Meltemi wind blows from the north through the peak summer months so for many they want to be on the protected south. Another option could be a boutique hotel villa complex, which gives the freedom of a villa holiday but has all the facilities of a good quality hotel. Mykonos has several such properties, new for summer 2019 is Arcs Boutique Villas Mykonos located in the popular area of Troulos, this is the style of accommodation that may have some empty beds to fill.

Hotels are trying to improve the standards each year, many decide the only way forward is to completely restyle and fully renovate the property, often the renovation overruns which means the hotel opens mid-season, this is when they have to offer some incentives to get the rooms booked quickly. One such hotel to check out is ” The Wild Mykonos ” which is located just above a private cove in the area of Agia Anna and Kalafatis, the hotel has just been fully renovated and offers excellent facilities including a new Spa and a traditional style Greek Taverna.

Mykonos is having a great summer but still, bargains can be found it just means doing a bit of homework and finding a Mykonos expert with the right contacts.

Santorini Special Offers

The question is can you find Santorini special offers, the answer is yes it is possible but you just need to know where to look.

The island of Santorini has become one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean with people traveling from across the globe to visit this unique Greek island.

Accommodation rates are higher than most other islands with the exception of Mykonos which also attracts a similar style of holidaymaker. During the summer months, rates vary and can go up and down at very short notice when the island’s accommodations are filling up the rates will also increase, but when they have extra availability it is possible to get a good deal.

When looking for hotels or villas within a month of travel it is possible to find some excellent rates which can be 30 to 50{faefa3e89b951fd288480627c72ce3bd53dd1dfccd9dfe6efa5780a083a0a6ac} lower than the regular rate, but if you see something then book it as things can change in a very short space of time. Caldera villas and hotels are always in high demand, so take a look at properties in the villages of Megalochori and Pyrgos, many have lovely Caldera views and the rates can be half of the accommodations hanging on the cliff edge.

The area of Akrotiri has some beautiful new villas and suites also with amazing views, this part of Santorini is on the up and is a great place to stay with lower rates, but lovely sunset views.

The holiday resorts of Kamari and also Perissa has lots of hotels and a few villas also, here you may find some bargain rates last minute, some of the larger hotels will sell rooms off just to fill the property.

On occasions it can work against you if you leave it late, if not so much accommodation available on the island the owners will put the price up, even last minute as they know people need a place to stay, this is the chance you take.

Recently some beautiful accommodations including Finikia houses have made some great offers, this property has lovely views of the Aegean sea and is less than 10 minutes walk from the center of Oia.

A property with Caldera views and great deals Akrotiri Cape 9 villas, a lovely collection of suites and villas ideal for families, couples and friends looking for perfect views and sensible rates.

Santorini has new villas, hotels and luxury suites opening every season, Santorini Villas has some of the best rates available for accommodations on this beautiful island.

This summer bookings are a little down for various locations in Greece including many of the popular locations, this means offers will be available. The larger islands like Corfu have some great deals, Crete and Rhodes also have some late availability.

Whichever grade or style of accommodation you are looking for, should it be a family villa, stylish boutique hotel or a luxury Greek hotel you can find a great deal this summer.

Mykonos Villa Holidays 2019

Mykonos is one of the most exclusive summer destinations in the world and has become high up on peoples list of holiday destinations for summer 2018. The island offers some amazing beaches such as Platis Gialos, Psarou, Paranga, Paradise and Super Paradise. these are the most popular beaches with first-class tourist facilities including some great lounge beach clubs. If you’re looking for something a little more laid back then maybe head out to the likes of Lia, Kalafati or Agia Anna, these offer the same high-quality tourist facilities but with a more relaxed tempo.

The town of Mykonos is the first sight a wonderful place, white cubed houses clinging to the hillside above the town, with a maze of winding streets and alleyways throughout the town. Here you will find a vast selection of chic boutiques, jewelry shops, cafes, and some first-class restaurants offering not just local menus but cuisines from across the globe.

The island has some beautiful accommodations ranging from small hotels with just a few rooms to very luxurious boutique style properties with outstanding facilities and very luxurious rooms including suites with private pools.

Villas are now a very popular choice for groups of friends, families or wedding parties coming to holiday on this amazing island, many houses have lived in staff that will take care of all your daily needs.

Some of the luxury hotels have now added a number of villas next to or close to the hotel grounds, this is a perfect option for those that enjoy the facilities of a quality hotel but like the privacy of a luxury holiday home. Kensho is one of these hotels, located next to Ornos beach it has added a beautiful 5 bedroomed villa with private pool and wonderful views of the bay.

Many visitors like to have a few quiet days, with a villa that is an easy option, if some of the group want to head down to the beach or town others can hang back and chill out by the pool. Most villas also offer fantastic views, so what could be better than taking in the Mediterranean sunshine on a comfortable sun lounger with views over the beautiful Mykonos coastline. Many villa companies make life easy by offering excellent local services including meeting guests on arrival with transfer to the villa, car hire and other services including taxi bookings and restaurant reservations.

Mykonos is a small island so everything is a short distance away, most of the best beaches and beach clubs are located in the sheltered southern area of the island, if you want peace and quiet look to the east or northern coastline, much quieter with all the action just a short drive away.

Also make sure to check out Ano Mera which is a delightful inland village with shops, bakers and many good tavernas with more sensible prices than Mykonos town.

If you come to Mykonos you will have a wonderful holiday, great beaches, great nightlife and if you wish a relaxing holiday can also be enjoyed, that’s the joy of a villa holiday in Mykonos.

Best Villas in Santorini + Where to stay

The island of Santorini now has many options when it comes to villa holidays from small 1 bedroomed suites for romantic getaways to large luxury properties that can offer anything up to 6 or 7 bedrooms. Many of the houses feature beautiful locations an high-end facilities including private swimming pools, jacuzzi tubs and many offer the amazing open views of the famous Santorini Caldera.

When choosing a vila on Santorini it is very important that you choose the right location for your group, many properties overlooking the caldera can often have many steps to negotiate, not only down but up also. It may seem a great idea to wake up each morning with those wonderful caldera views but the novelty of the climb to the top of the cliff each day may soon wear thin.

However caldera views are something special that Santorini has to offer, so if you’re wanting that special view without steps then maybe consider a villa in the area of Akrotiri, most of the properties in this area are new and as its only had recent development still many are without lots of steps.

A good idea for family villa holidays in Santorini could be something closer to the coast, maybe the area of Kamari or the seaside resorts of Perissa and Perivolos, not only do you have nice black sand beaches but safe swimming with good local facilities including many restaurants/tavernas, shops, mini markets and also some low key nightlife for any teenagers in the group.

So where is the best place to stay?

Fira, Firastefani and Imerovigli

The areas of Fira, Firostifani and Imerovigli have now pretty much all now joined together forming one long run of accommodations, shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs and some fairly good nightlife of which mainly gets going in the high summer months of July and August.

Oia and Finikia

Oia is more relaxed and less hectic, once the sun has set and the hoards disappeared the village returns to a stylish relaxed spot with some lovely places to enjoy a dinner or a few drinks as the evening fads. The small settlement of Finikia is just a short distance along from Oia, although the village and its accommodations do not offer caldera views most have lovely views to the Aegean sea looking east towards the island of Anafi. The village itself is very calm with a few shops and a small number of tavernas/restaurants.

Kamari

This was one of the first coastal areas to be developed, the resort features a long black beach with mainly safe bathing and very good beach facilities, lots of bars and restaurants backing the black sand beach with sun beds plus parasols. This is an out and out tourist hot spot, lots of tourist accommodations, huge choice of places to eat and drink plus a vast selection of tourist shops. The resort has grown over the years and is still getting bigger each season, from Kamari a regular bus service operates to the capital Fira and the airport is just 15 minutes away by taxi.

Perissa and Perivolos

Perissa was also one of the first areas of Santorini to be developed back in the early 80’s, at one time a huge campsite was at the heart of the resort, this has now gone and new accommodations are springing up each year. Perissa has a more laid-back feel than Kamari, not so built up but still offers a great choice of places to eat and drink, lots of shops plus a couple of good chill out beach lounge bars.

Perivolos is really an extension of Perissa, it’s just a bit further along the soft black sand beach and is at this time just starting to be developed. The area has a good selection of tavernas and also a couple of good daytime beach lounge bars with water sports also available.

Pyrgos / Megalochori / Messaria – Villages

The island has a number of nice villages away from the coast, Pyrgos and Megalochori are 2 villages with lots of good quality villas/houses for rent, most with private pools and great views. These villages offer a quiet charm with very good facilities including mini markets and various restaurants/tavernas.

Messaria is in the centre of the island with lots of local life and as it sits on a major crossroads always seems to have a bit going on, also very good local facilities as it has a large residential community.
